The GUI is very nice and sleek but that seems to be the only feature better than eclipse. It probably doesn't have plugin support or as good of a community as eclipse.

The GUI looks overpowering, I don't know to much about Java IDE's themselves but I can't help but think that's going to hurt your eyes after a while.

Oh and BTW, can someone tell me what the address for the IRC is, I can't find it anywhere. (I know, I'm hopeless.)

IntelliJ's better than Eclipse

Looks VERY nice.

As long as it's easy to work with and functions properly, I'd say it's extremely impressive. Functionality > Appearance.

Looks... funky, but does it work as good as it looks?

Good day Team Avolition members,
After starting to look around for links to our project, I found this site.
I would like to answer a few questions that have popped up.

Firstly, the plugin support. The program is built from the core to be modular. This allows us to have a very advanced plugin API that can do much more than most. In other words, each feature is a plugin, this should explain the broad support we have added for this.

Secondly, the theming. The entire program is themable. We have designed it that you can essentially modify each pixel as well as the alpha layer. The current theme is very easily changed, the only reason it looks like it does as it was a team decision to use this to portray the application.

You can follow development on our site, Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hardcodeide) and Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#!/hardcodeide). We will have an IRC up shortly, watch the site for updates.

Not bad, but you've got a long way to go to draw people away from major IDEs. I'm of the personal opinion that Visual Studio is the most productive IDE available right now, though I wish it had support (official or third party) for more languages.

CountNoobula, will this be Mac OS X only? And will there be a free/community version? Also if you guys have any spots for beta testers I'd love to help.

If you go on their website, it says it will be available on all operating systems.

The pricing and licensing is still being decided, we will most likely offer a community version though, but for features such as access to our server for certain features, you will have to pay for, although the cost will be very low.

This is subject to change

I think I'll give it a shot, because I'm not a huge fan of my current IDEs. Can't wait to try it out.

Obviously it looks really cool and sleek, but I'm worried that the appearance will draw attention/focus away from the main goal: to program.
vim is the best IDE around.

The GUI is very nice, and the feature list seems pretty good.

As for drawing attention away from programming - a good GUI looks great and complements the main goal. I don't find the GUI distracting beyond the initial "ooooo" factor. It's easy on the eyes (aka not too flashy or flamboyant, but not dull and plain either).

As stated, you can theme it. We have added a very in-depth, yet simple, theme API.
